Air Conditoning Systems in the Home and Beyond

The basic function of any air conditioning system is to remove the warm air from a room and replace it with cooler air. Additionally, as that warm air circulates through the system, it is treated and cleaned before it is vented throughout the house. Bearing this in mind, the HVAC industry experts divide air conditioning into two categories, specifically, comfort applications and process applications.

Comfort Applications

Even the most basic air conditioning systems can provide comfortable temperature levels to the home’s interior. However, the success of the system is typically determined by the individual and their comfort level preferences.

Work places have their own unique air conditioning challenges. Although this is a somewhat disputed finding, the more comfortable inside temperatures are in the office or workplace, the more positive and productive the employees will be.

From an industrial standpoint office buildings and other types of commercial structures need to be constructed in such a manner as to enhance and increase the amount of fresh air and light that enters the building. The taller a building is, the less that natural ventilation occurs. This is because the air speed increases as the altitude of the structure increases.

Comfort applications are going to vary based on the type of building being addressed. The categories are as follows:

  • Commercial buildings – apartment buildings, malls, and shopping centers
  • Institutional buildings – hospitals, large sized complexes, and offices
  • Residential buildings – apartments built together or single family homes

Process Applications

The primary purpose of process applications is to provide individuals with a healthy comfortable environment, despite the amount of heat inside the structure and weather conditions outside.

The most important process applications include:

Hospital air that is filtered in such a manner as to control how much a patient dehydrates and to reduce the possibility of infection;

Integrated circuits and pharmaceuticals produced in “clean rooms” which require specific levels of clean air, controlled temperature, and humidity;

Unique air conditioning and ventilation methods used in passenger air planes due to the outside air pressure being much lower than air inside the aircraft.

Other process applications include cooking areas, data processing centers, food processing areas, industrial environments, mines, nuclear facilities, physical testing centers, and textile manufacturing facilities.

With either of these applications, the common goal is to control the interior temperature of the home or industrial/business environment, as well as air movement, air quality, and humidity. You can rely on Bell Brothers Heating and Air Conditioning to install and service the optimum system for your home living environment.
